Nancy Marchant's knitting brioche book is amazing, if only just for the stitch dictionary in it. When I was a beginner, I found the Big Book of knitting quite helpful, and I still turn to it sometimes. Estonian knitted lace is pretty cool beans too. Check out my library on ravelry and let me know if you want me to bring those to the group so you can take a look.
