It’s common knowledge womxn—especially womxn of color—are underrepresented in the technology industry today. This lack of gender diversity carries with it a major opportunity cost. Diverse teams are on average more creative, innovative, and, ultimately, are associated with greater profitability. In addition, being a designer in the technology industry is often a minority group, and with a focus on engineers and developers, there often aren’t initiatives to grow creativity in tech organizations.

As designers and design leaders, how do we bring change to the tech industry to address this lack of diversity?

Tasha Lutfi and Christina Koehn are co-founders of Womxn in Design at Microsoft, a group that aims to empower creative womxn by supporting professional growth and cultivating relationships within and beyond the design community. The aim of the group is to create awareness of gender-related issues and elevate the influence of womxn leaders in design within Microsoft and our industry.

Join us for a chat with Tasha and Christina about how they started Womxn in Design, their learnings along the way and how they have taken action to bring change to the tech industry.

Her focus is creating magical multi-device experiences and imagining a world where any device is connected seamlessly to YOU to maximize engagement and conversion throughout the Windows ecosystem.

During her sixteen year tenure at Microsoft, Tasha was influential in rebuilding MSN several times. She contributed to creating a ground up for a mobile-first, cloud-first approach which aligned the focus to reengage the primary digital daily habits in people’s lives, helping them complete tasks across all of their devices.

Prior to Microsoft, Tasha founded Genesis Se7en, a global design studio dedicated to crafting branding solutions and unique interactive experiences.
