"Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: Treasures of Kenwood House" at SAM

We will be viewing "Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: Treasures of Kenwood House, London" at the Seattle Art Museum on Saturday, April 27, at 12:30.

Here is a description of this exhibition:

“Within the neoclassical Kenwood House at Hampstead Heath on the outskirts of London, resides a magnificent painting collection known as the Iveagh Bequest. Kenwood is home to an exceptional collection of Old Master paintings, including major works by Gainsborough, Hals, Rembrandt, Reynolds, Romney, Turner, Van Dyck, and many others. Rembrandt, Van Dyck, Gainsborough: Treasures of Kenwood House, London, a selection of approximately 50 masterpieces from the collection, will tour American museums for the first time. Among other treasures, the exhibition provides a rare opportunity to see Rembrandt’s late Portrait of the Artist (ca. 1665), which has never left Europe before.

“The exhibition from Kenwood House will be complemented by a companion exhibition, “EuropeanMasters: Treasures of Seattle. Featuring about 30 works from local collections, the show traces the burgeoning enthusiasm for Old Master paintings in Seattle over the last 20 years.”

Here is the link to SAM's web site where more information about this exhibition can be found:

"European Masters"

The adult admission price/suggested donation for this exhibition and all the other SAM galleries is $20.00. There are discounts for seniors, students, and military personnel. Admission is free for SAM members. The tickets for April 27th are for admission at any hour of the day which means that you probably will be able to purchase a ticket on the day of the event.

Please meet our group no later than 12:30 near the suspended automobile art installation near the ticket and information desks. I am an Asian male who wears glasses and who will be wearing a beret or an African cap or a black rain hat depending upon the weather. There is a head shot of me in the photo section of my profile so you can see for whom to look. My cell phone,[masked], will be on until we enter the exhibition area.

We will enter the museum at 12:45 to participate in the free docent tour of the exhibition that begins at 1:00 pm sharp. After the tour is over we can explore the exhibition on our own.  At a time to be determined by the group we will meet at the exit of this exhibition to determine if the group wants to spend more time exploring it or wants to leave to see the rest of the museum. There will be an optional food and beverage stop at this time. Participants can return to SAM to see the related exhibition and the art in other galleries.

Please note that it is difficult to keep a group together at a museum meetup. Participants will go through an exhibition at their own speed, and there will be many other people there who will essentially dilute a once cohesive group. We will try to keep the group together by taking part of the tour and by specifying a rendezvous time later in the day. These actions may or may not prevent the group from splitting apart.

See you on the 27th of April.
