What we're about

Green Lake is one of the most popular destinations for urban runnings in the Seattle area. The Seattle Green Lake Running Group was created with the intent of creating a running community that supports and encourages a healthy and active lifestyle through group events and participation. Our goal is to try and have something for everyone and the more runners that attend events the better chance that there will be running buddies for all. Whether you're looking to increase your cardiovascular endurance, meet some new exercise buddies or have training partners for your next race you've come to the right place.

Group Waiver:

I know that running and participating in SGLRG events are potentially hazardous activities. I should not participate in group activities unless I am medically able and properly trained. I assume all risks associated with running and participating in SGLRG events including but not limiting to, falls, contact with other participants, the effects of the weather including high heat and/or humidity, the conditions of the road and traffic on the various courses and routes, and such risk being known and appreciated by me. Having read this waiver and knowing these facts, and in consideration of your acceptance of my application for membership, I for myself and anyone entitled to act on my behalf, waive and release the Seattle Green Lake Running Group, and all sponsors, their representatives and successors from all claims or liabilities of any kind arising out of my participation in these group activities even though that liability may arise out of negligence or carelessness on the part of the person named in this waiver. I further grant permission to all of the foregoing to use any photographs, motion pictures, recordings, or any other record of these events and activities for any legitimate purpose.

Monday Morning On Track!

Needs a location

We normally recommend a different workout each week for the group. Please check the comments here a few days before the event for details of the week's group workout.

NOTE: During marathon training seasons those training for marathon sometimes run longer repeats off the track (often, but not always, running over to Green Lake to run them on the "inner loop" path).

HEALTH AND SAFETY: Please DO NOT ATTEND this week if you are unwell or have had recent contact with anyone who might be covid positive.

MASKS/BUFFS/FACE-COVERINGS: Please wear or bring one at least for the start. Once we are running each small group can decide on their own policy, but please be respectful to anyone who chooses to wear a face covering.

Monday Evening Track (MET)

Needs a location

Welcome to Monday Evening Track (MET)
Do you need a change of pace? Want to improve your running speed? Missing that final kick during a race? Just want a great workout? MET is for you!! The goal is to give runners the tools and a safe and friendly environment that enables them pursue the running speed of their dream.
** Workouts are provided and explained by the event host.
** If the workout is too much for where you are, we are always happy to customize it for you.
** You can run a completely different workout and just join us for company and accountability!
** Runners of all speeds, levels and abilities are encouraged to join. Newbies need not worry as they'll benefit from a great explanation of workouts.

Typically this is how we roll starting at 6:30pm:

  • warmup jog and drills - 15 mins
  • Explain/discuss the workout - 5 mins
  • workout - 30 - 45 mins
  • cooldown jog - 5-10 mins

Optional:

  • a quick core workout
  • Lake plunge in the summer
  • Socialize with food/drinks/fro-yo ... at PCC or elsewhere

The track is dirk track in Lower Woodland Park. To find us, google "Lower Woodland - Soccer Field #7". The track is around this soccer field. We usually hangout by the bleachers/benches on the north side of the soccer field for a few minutes before we get started.

Please don't forget to join us at PCC in Greenlake for dinner after the workout

Tuesday Evening Run (TER)

Needs a location

TER is a great way to add a fun, yet challenging, evening run into your running routine. Plus, we almost always get pizza afterwards! Come out weekly and you'll have a new running buddy or 3 to help push you through your training plans.

We offer three different routes to choose from:

3 miles: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/4901942017
5 miles: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/4901909737
7 miles: https://www.mapmyrun.com/routes/view/4901935420

Starting at Zeek’s, we all head down to Ravenna Park via Ravenna Bvld. The three milers head north along Brooklyn Ave to 65th St. and turn left back towards Ravenna. Five and seven milers head through the center of the park, then loop back north on 58th to 20th. We cross the bridge over the park and head to 65th, where we turn left and rejoin the 3 mile route. Once we all get back to Ravenna, we backtrack to the lake and head north back to Zeeks, or take the long way around the outer loop to make it (almost) 7 miles.

Grab some friends and split a medium (3 people) or large (4 people) pizza and join us for some good conversation.

Hope to see you this Tuesday!

Wake Up Wednesday (WUW)

Location visible to members

We're re-starting WUW after a long pandemic hiatus and we're looking forward to meeting you!

Come meet us in front of Starbucks at Green Lake on Wednesday mornings at 5:30 am for a casual run around the lake or perhaps jump in for a tempo run. There are plenty of options as far as pace and number of laps that our group runs. great turnouts are what make Wednesday mornings so fun :)

For all the first time runners: check out our FB page after RSVP-ing. You can easily find someone to connect with there for future runs! Our WUW turnout is much larger than the RSVP list. Hope to see you there.
Seattle Green Lake Running Group (https://www.facebook.com/groups/SGLRG/)

Option #1- run around the lake- once, twice, or more if you really feel like it.

Option #2- run the 6-mile off-lake route. The route tends to vary week to week, but gets mapped out and posted on this page by Tuesday afternoons (and gets posted on Tuesdays on our FB page).

Option #3- run a tempo run (either around the lake, during the 6-miler off-lake, or the seasonal Hanson's marathon training tempo routes).

We recommend all runners either be 2 weeks past their final vaccine shot or wear a mask and practice physical distancing when interacting with others. Please be considerate of your fellow runners' personal comfort level and also check out https://safety.rungreenlake.com for additional safety protocol information.
