Japanese Tea History Class @ Phoenix Tea

Ever wonder how tea got started in Japan? Why the Japanese started adding rice to tea? When roasting tea became common practice? Where the practice of shading tea leaves before harvest got started?

This class will look at the history of how different tea varieties in Japan developed. We will go beyond the Monk Eisai and will look at the beginnings of most of the major loose leaf tea varieties regularly consumed in Japan. Tea stories told will include sencha, genmaicha, hojicha, kukicha, and gyokuro. All teas will also be sampled :)

There is no charge for this class and sampling cups will be provided, but feel free to bring your own.

Excellent presentation. Learned a lot, and enjoyed tasting all the fine tea.

Hello Lee. Thanks for the offer, but I live in Seattle. I think Joji is the one who may need a ride.

I would love to go but buses in Burien aren't ideal for me.
