Hello Seattle Indo Group!
I am John. Over the last few years I have developed a deep passion for Indonesia – its people, food, culture, and opportunities. During[masked] I lived in Hong Kong and had organized an Indonesian culture meetup there.
I have just recently moved to Seattle having lived here[masked].
I would like to rejuvenate the Seattle Indonesian Language Meetup Group. It seems Ian has done a wonderful job thus far with 172 members. Our own in Hong Kong only had 40ish and there are approximately 150,000 Indonesians living there!
Let's start with a simple coffee and chat to discuss Seattle, this group, and where we could take this in terms of future meetups.
10:30AM @ Cafe Allegro in University District
Waroeng Jajanan on 11/1/2014. I want to start the day with some nasi padang, anyone want to join me? It looks like they open at 11:00 AM, right? I've never been there at opening, is all the food usually there at 11:00?
Hi all, I wanted to invite you to a dance show I'm organizing on July 26th at the Langston Hughes Performing Arts Institute. It will feature traditional Indonesian dances from all over Indonesia. If you attended the ISAUW Keraton event, many of the same dancers will be there.
Dancers are Astrid Vinje, Christina Sunardi, Tikka Sears, Hawwa Djuned, and many others. We will have dancing from Java, Sunda, Sumatra, and Bali.
You can buy tickets for the event through Brown Paper Tickets - they are currently $17 for adults, and $13 for students/seniors.
You can check out more information at www.seattleindonesiandance.com.
Let's get together and practice our Indonesian, as well as talk about Indonesia and Indonesian culture. All are welcome to attend. Be sure to invite your friends too!
We will meet at the Queen Anne Farmer's Market and try Tiga Dara's Indonesian Street Food. For more information, visit: http://qafma.net/tiga-dara/

I am in Olympia most weekends, is there any interest in meeting for dinner down south? I know there are a couple Vietnamese restaurants in town. Another option is to meet in Tacoma when I head north on Sunday evening.
ISAUW (Indonesian Student Association at UW) will once again be presenting the largest cultural event of the year, “KERATON 2014: THE AUTHENTIC INDONESIAN MARKET.” Saturday, May 24th (3 pm - 9 pm)
Husky Union Building Lawn (University of Washington - Seattle) Traditional food, souvenir bazaar, traditional dances, games and other interactive activities will be carried out throughout the night. All these highlights of the night will be thoroughly selected to showcase the indigenous Indonesian culture. In addition, we will proudly be presenting Batik, the traditional Indonesian clothing, as the dress code for the night. This is also an effort to introduce Batik and traditional activities to the global audience.
