This is a dynamic, evolving Group Meditation, chanted in 2-3 parts while seated in chairs. The total duration is around 45 minutes, around half of which is chanting. The precise nature of the meditation will vary each week, as the composition of the group varies and the meditation itself evolves. We will include sanskrit chants and other variations in additional to the basic Sufi Chant (Hu) that lies a the core of the meditation. A deeper description of the basic structure is below.
There is a core group of people who regularly attend this meditation without RSVP-ing on this meet-up page. We regularly have 8 or more attend each week that do not RSVP on the meet-up page. Don't be shy of attending because it looks like there are only a couple people going.
WORDS OF ENCOURAGEMENT FOR A SPIRITUAL GROUP:
"It is indeed true, my friends, that when those of like mind gather together all of those within the group are aided in their seeking. For each is now supported by the others in the group. It is as if you all hooked yourselves up to a great big battery, each of you being a battery of the other.
As you rest in this circle of seeking during this session of working, each of your auras is blending with auras on either side of you, and as you allow that energy to rotate around the circle clockwise, those blended energies begin immediately to build a sacred space; indeed, as soon as you started talking together when you came in the door, you begin to build a tremendous dome of light over this dwelling that reaches into the heaven and is most beautiful to see."
Group meditation allows us to connect with our true selves, other meditators, and the planet on which we live. If you have a personal meditation practice, this is a way to expand and energize it; if you have tried to start meditating and had difficulty maintaining your practice, or even understanding HOW to meditate, this practice can get you started and motivated to practice by yourself.
The basic structure for this group practice will consist of three parts: two periods of chanting followed by a period of silent contemplation. Afterward we spend some time sharing about the experience we just had or speak about future events. We are usually done with the group around 9:00 pm. An introduction to the meditation will be given to any first-timers.
The primary "mantra" we use is called the "Hu" or "Hue". It has been used since ancient times as a means to connect to the divine. It is considered a derivation of the Name of God and was kept secret for many ages. It is also known as the "key" that opens the 7th or Crown chakra, so many who practice this meditation experience an opening of the crown chakra and a increased access to universal knowledge.
The chanting of "Hu" can also release your inner tensions, help you attune to the vibrations of spirit, and help to solve your daily problems. It can make you more calm, strong and centered. The voice is the steed that carries the speaker through realms of spirit. The following video includes some elaboration on mantras and a demonstration of the "Hu" meditation.
