FALL HIKE IN DIVIDE, COLORADO: RASPBERRY MOUNTAIN

  • Oct 26, 2013 · 10:30 AM

I'll be starting this hike at 10:30.

If you for some reason you arrive late I have provided the directions for the trail we'll be hiking. Take your time and have a good hike.  Please do bring food to have at the top of the hike in case we decide to eat.

The distance for this hike is 5.6 miles with an elevation gain of 1,200 Ft and a moderate hiking level

Raspberry Mountain stands above the small, gold boom town of Divide. It's not the highest mountain in the area, or very tough to climb, but it's special because of access and the views from the top. It offers fantastic views of Pikes Peak, Teller County, the Ten Mile/Mosquito Ranges, and the Sawatch Range.

Summary: From the parking follow an old road to the top of the ridge where you'll meet up with a more heavily traveled trail. Take a right at this intersection and follow the old road to its end. There are several spur trails along the way, but just stick with the most heavily traveled trail. The old road comes to an end before you reach the top of Raspberry Mountain. When the road ends there is a single track trail that continues north downhill at first then up the last section of the mountain. The trail will end at a large outcropping of rocks. To reach the  summit stay on the left (West) side of the rocks and head around to the North side. Climb a short section of rocky terrain. This is the summit of Raspberry Mountain. The standard route takes you through beautiful Pike National Forest Pine and Aspen, and leads you to a boulder strewn summit of the familiar pinkish Pikes Peak region rock.

Travel US 24 to the town of Divide, and turn south on CO 67 South (not to be confused with CO 67 North, which goes from Woodland Park, 8 miles away). Go 4.25 miles from this turn to a poorly signed left turn onto the Upper Four Mile Road. On the way, you will pass a turn for Mueller State Park. Once you pass the park, look  for a sign that says, "Rocky Mountain Camp," and then another sign 100 yds. from there for, "Crags Campground." Turn left here. Cross a small bridge, and begin to travel uphill on the dirt road. The road is rough, but passable for passenger cars. Travel 1.1 miles up this road until you reach a sharp switchback. You will see a gate straight ahead with a small pull off. Park here. This is the trail head. The road beyond the gate is prohibited to motor vehicles. If the trailhead parking is full, try to park off of the main road. There is another small parking area up the road about and eighth of a mile.
Have yourself a good day everyone!

Totally excellent hike although a long way to drive. Great weather and company, even if we had to play catch up having stopped at the wrong trail head initially. We enjoyed it all.

We have room if anyone still needs a ride, but we will be leaving from our house in Lakewood and we are leaving at 7:45am because we are unsure of the travel conditions which should put us there a little early if Google Maps is correct. cell[masked]

the trailhead parking for Raspberry Mountain is very limited. only room for a couple cars. If the lot is full you might want to park in the Crags lot and shuttle people to the trailhead. (also There is a bathroom at the Crags parking area.)

Tom, thank you! But It would be hard for me to be in the point you mentioned at 8. Yelowstone rd is far for me.
