Case Mountain Park, Manchester, CT
We will meet at the Case pond trailhead off Birch Mountain Road.

Coordinates[masked],-72.48024344053647.

The approximate street address is 74 Birch Mountain Road (for GPS navigation, there is no such actual address).

We will hike around and over Case Mountain (elevation 744 feet), stopping along the way to check out some beautiful historic cabins, and take a snack/water break at the overlook at the summit. The view from the overlook is excellent, looking out over many towns to the west and north.

We will continue south along some ridges to Birch Mountain, then loop around and hike back to the starting point. We will hike at a moderate pace, adjusting as appropriate for the group and the terrain. After the hike, we will celebrate the vernal equinox and the coming of spring with a potluck and bonfire at Jim F’s secluded hilltop retreat in Andover.

Directions and a map will be emailed to attendees a couple days before the event. Please bring beverages, something to grill and either an appetizer, salad, side dish, or desert, and indicate your selection in the comments section below. I will provide plates, cups utensils and napkins. A detailed map of the Case Mountain Park trails is at:

Thanks to you co-hikers for making it a joyous celebration of spring! I had never hiked most of the trails we traversed, so I appreciated your enthusiasm for the day as well as assistance with navigation. the company, terrain, and scenery were wonderful. Case Mountain is on my short list of places to return to. Thanks for joining in a celebration of the equinox and a return to warmer weather!

I totally agree! Good navigating through the maze of trails-quite a difficult task. And of course, the warm get together at Jim Corrine's place. Nice way to start the spring season.

BTW dont forget a side dish, something to grill, and a beverage for the after-event. There is an upscale grocery store - Highland Park Market - across from the on-ramp

A few of you have the option to NOT RECEIVE MESSAGES checked, so I couldn't send you directions to the after-event. I don't like to post my address here so I will provide directions at the hike.

The forecast for tomorrow is rain starting at 2:00 and continuing into the night, so I am cancelling the event and rescheduling for next weekend. Grrr I hate when it rains on my fire!

The weather forecast is looking rainy for Saturday afternoon and evening. I will check the weather again in the morning and post an update around 9:00. If the forecast is real rain (as opposed to what I call "high Humidity" I will cancel and re-post for next Saturday.

Hey Jim, so how far is your home from the end of the hiking trail? Just wondering because I may be bringing either a cold or hot dish for after hike. Or even hotdogs to roast on the fire etc.

    March 25, 2014

    • Jim F

Its about 12 minutes away. Feel free to use our microwave to reheat food if needed. I also have a large gas grill w/ side burner on the (covered) back porch. For cold food, I suggest a cooler and Ice packs.

I will bring something for dessert.
