What are your thoughts about the Semantic Web? Is it the next Big Thing?

The semantic web has been in the cool-but-not-quite-happening-yet range for so long, but I think that it really is on the cusp of wide (& commercial) adoption.

Which new technologies would you like to learn? Have you worked with any "semantic" technologies such as XML, RDF, OWL, GRDDL, or SPARQL?

I've worked with thesauri, XML, OWL, and text analytics for years, but am still getting comfortable with RDF and am just learning SPARQL.

Which applications or web sites will make the Semantic Web a reality in the public eye?

I've been especially excited about the use of ontologies & linked open data at the BBC.

I'm the taxonomist at National Geographic.
