Internet-of-Things, Arduino and talks

  • Glimworm HQ

We talk and do Internet-of-Things, Arduino, RaspPi and more. Ranging from projects (Air Quality Egg, Open Thermostat), presentations, events and just getting together to talk. Everybody is welcome: Technical, non-technical or just interested.

After the hugely successful and fun Air Quality Egg project, we are working this year on a new project: The Open Thermostat project. Goal is to design a home thermostat that has loads of possibilities for customization, you can program your self and is based on the Arduino electronics platform.

If you like to know more, be involved or are just curious: Just come to one of our meetups... every third Wednesday of the Month at Glimworm's HQ in Amsterdam (across the road from the Rijksmuseum, thanks Jonathan!).

In addition, we want to bring in speakers for each event, who can share their thoughts, experiences and/or wisdom. So if you know someone, let us know.

    Just stumbled across this http://pocketnow.com/2013/12/17/google-energysense
Nothing final yet, but maybe something we could connect with eventually...

Just wanted to let everyone know the GitHub repo is up and populated with all the data I could find from links on the meetup pages (mainly the files Hans shared with us).

    https://github.com/sensemakersamsterdam/openThermostat

Documentation can be found in the repository's wiki

    Hi Miguel,

    It's over here https://github.com/sensemakersamsterdam/
I actually don't know if you can request access from there. If not just let me know your github username and I will add you.

For everyone else, on the just linked github organisation we've created a repository for the open-thermostat https://github.com/sensemakersamsterdam/open-thermostat.
There's nothing in there yet, but I will add the files that have been created thus far (the ones that are on meetup.com, e-mails and dropbox) in the coming 2 weeks.

Yesterday we discussed that we want to define goals and a direction for future development (for next year). We can use the wiki pages on Github to document this.
I've created our first issue (yay! ;)) to track this https://github.com/sensemakersamsterdam/open-thermostat/issues/1
Feel free to request access and your suggestions.

I guess we can use the meetup discussions/mailing list to discuss things?

@Geert as Sander said you can use the wiki on GitHub (see his link).

I've added a 'Discussion' label to the issues on GitHub as well so if you/anyone wants to discuss something we can do that there as well.

@Miguel You should be part of the sensemakersamsterdam team now :)

Does anyboy has a screenshot of a finished board? I am having trouble with the description in https://www.dropbox.com/s/hj45uy8ulq8nn19/Open%20Thermostaat%20v1.docx about a short on R6, the DS18B20 right bottom connection to 3v3 and the led direction. I'll summarize my findings in the github account (sensemakersamsterdam)

    Hey guys,

I am in SF but following you for some time cause from January on our HQ will be in Amsterdam. Is there a chance to join you via Livestream / Google Hangout on 18th ?

We build www.dreamups.org - A github for hardware prototyping and and experiments data.

How are people progressing on coding the thermostat? As I had to miss out on the soldering session my board won't be ready till the Jan session. I am however looking forward to do some coding and working together on this.
