Sensemakers Newsletter Feb.2019; discounts and more

Hi all,

A warm salute from the Mobile World Conference in Barcelona, where it is time consuming to separate hype from reality. Good news is that The Things Network won a well deserved NGI award here! Please note that the NGI initiative offers a lot of funding possibilities!
But incredible the amount of companies adding Blockchain, 5G and/or IoT to their marketing/portfolio’s without being able to answer some basic (critical) questions.
Security is still a hot item that’s not really addressed by the majority of the companies as is the realization that it’s not about IoT/Sensing but about sensemaking. In that context the talk at our meetup last week from Schiphol Real Estate was really interesting; they shared their learning on some of the unexpected (negative) outcomes of using sensordata as examples of the complexity of the real world.
We’ve also kicked off the sound project with SensingClues. During our lab evenings we will design and build prototypes for testing and sensemaking at the Marineterrein. More information can be found here. Feel free to join, but as always you can also work on other projects and/or experiment with 3D printing!

  • At the IIOTA Meetup in Amsterdam last month a very interesting proof of concept of an autonomously self balancing electricity grid was presented, you can watch it here
