The Glamour of Bellville Sassoon at the Fashion & Textile Exhibition

Bellville Sassoon has been synonymous with high fashion for over 50 years. As Britain’s foremost couture label from the 1960s onwards, founder Belinda Bellville with designers David Sassoon and Lorcan Mullany, dressed many of the world’s most stylish women, including Diana, Princess of Wales. This exhibition traces the history of British glamour from the couture houses of the late 1950s, to the celebrities who became clients of the company. It also explores the influence of ready-to-wear and Vogue patterns.

I think this should be a real treat for anyone who has an interest in fashion. For more information or to buy tickets in advance, please see the website. We'll meet in the shop area, which you can enter before buying a ticket, at 11.00 and go in to the exhibition at 11.15.

Ticket Prices:

£8 for adults

£5.50 for students and concessions

50% off full price ticket for Art Fund members

After viewing the exhibition, depending on what those attending want to do, we'll go somewhere locally (perhaps the museum's cafe) for food/drinks and a chat.

Went yesterday. Absolutely loved it and may go again armed with a camera as you are allowed to take photographs without flash of any clothes not belonging to members of the Royal Family. The quality of the clothesmaking is superb.

May well come. Went to a talk by David Sassoon last time they had an exhibition on Bellville Sassoon. I remember asking him what influenced him (I had seen in a Manolo Blahnik exhibition that Blahnik was very influenced by the film "The Leopard"). David Sassoon said it was a wonderful film but didn't tell me whether it had influenced him too. I love glamorous clothes so it should be great fun!
