What is your history with sewing?

I've sewn on-and-off, with some really long off periods for over 30 years. A few years ago I launched a very small RTW shirt company, and my sewing skills improved dramatically from the guidance of my pattern maker, the need to frequently make samples, and the acquisition of a really good sewing machine. My pattern maker also taught me how to draft patterns from my designs and fundamentals of grading patterns by hand. It turns out that I really love the pattern work, so I'm researching taking my business in that direction.

Tell us about your sewing machine(s).

Bernina 330 (LOVE). I had used industrial machines before, which totally spoil you, but only in the context of upholstery. I had still been sewing clothing with the Singer my parents bought me when I graduated from high school. I had no idea how much a good non-industrial machine could improve the quality of my work. I also have a really ancient Baby-Lock serger, a Brother serger, and a Brother cover-stitch. I dream of trading all three in for one current Baby-Lock that will cover-stitch in addition to serging.

When you make a mistake while sewing, what do you do?

Figure out how to fix it.

What's your favorite thing you've ever sewn? Can we see a picture?

Currently a pair of jeans I just made. This is the first time I've ever made jeans and they look quite good. And they fit far more comfortably than anything I can find RTW.

If skill, time, and resources were no issue, what would you sew right now?

The list is long. I have a stack of patterns and a notebook full of sketches to develop into patterns.
