What to expect at the meditation meetup

After some experiments with the format, we've found the groove for the meetups so everyone attending, regardless of their experience level, can make the most of it.

The venue is the Brahma Kumaris Meditation Center at the corner of Baker and Hayes in the USF (Panhandle) area. There's parking for 3 cars on the driveway on the Hayes side of the building. Take off your shoes once your enter the building by the shoe rack. If you are cold, there are plenty of shawls to cuddle up in, just ask the hosts.

The meetup starts at 6:30pm (fairly punctual about this). Don't hesitate to join us if you are a few minutes late but just don't ring the doorbell, the door should be unlocked. The lights are dimmed a little to create an atmosphere conducive for deep experience. The organizers play some light ambient music interspersed with guided commentaries, which are very helpful for beginners, and silence. This format was created based on feedback and experimenting since 2007, with both beginners and avid meditators. Sometimes, we have someone meditating on the stage to focus the energy in the gathering. The meditation ends at 7:30pm noticed by the lights being turned up.

We then read a thoughtful passage and discuss it for the next few minutes. This is a good time to ask any questions or provide feedback on the meeting. You may receive a home-baked cookie or piece of fruit to sweeten the mouth as the meeting comes to a close.

Finally, there is no charge for the meetings. If you have any suggestions for the meetup, please feel free to send the organizers an email (listed on the left.)

Look forward to seeing you at the next meetup!
