Have you sailed before?

20+ years of sailing SF Bay, coastal to Mexico, Pacific Cup to Hawaii and return on my own custom ship, and a year sailing Micronesia. I also sail 20 days/yr aboard my own boat on the SF Bay, and 2+ weeks/yr on a 130' Indonesian sailing schooner while diving Raja Ampat and Papua New Guinea. Cetacea is my second, smaller, sailing ship, allowing me to sail shorthanded. I am a highly experienced and legal Captain with ~10,000 open ocean miles on, 3,000 hours diving beneath, and 1,000 helicopter piloting hours above the water as an FAA instructor, but not a USCG documented "Captain" Captain that requires no practical exam (can you imagine obtaining a drivers license without a driving test?), since I sail for pleasure and shared passion, and not as a more restrictive business. I'm also the Captain of our shared destiny when aboard Cetacea, and that subject is only discussed by mutineers and those not yet thrown overboard, hahahahaha

Do you own a sailboat? If so, what type, and where is it berthed?

Yes, 1-off Blue Seas 42' cutter-rigged pilothouse "fast-cruiser" fin-keeled motor-sailor with feathering prop, is insured to the tip of Mexico and 200 miles out. More cruiser than racer, for sure, although we clocked an average of 9.7 knots over multiple 10-15 minute AIS sampling periods surf-sailing the Potato Patch in 2014, and that is above her hull speed <yayyyyyyyy>! Cetacea is berthed in the San Francisco Southbeach Marina, pier 40.

Please post a photo, no more than 2 years old, showing only you (no buddy or group shots) which *clearly* shows your face (front) so event hosts and others can easily recognize you. Majority of photo should be head/shoulders, not your surroundings.

OK, but hangin' with my mistress, Cetacea :-)

Have you have read "GENERAL INFORMATION offered by Wendy" and "NBS Photo Requirements" located at [https://www.meetup.com/sfbay-sailing/about/] ?

Absolutely, a riveting disclosure, kept me awake at night wondering if the butler did it!

How did you hear about this group? Please be specific. (ex: Google search; via another Meetup profile; Meetup email announcement; Meetup search/browsing, referral from someone in this or another Meetup group, etc.)

A sailing friend advised of sailing meetups. GWAW didn't respond to my offer to invite members out sailing, but Sailor Dave embraced it, and so here I am, since 4/2014

Introduction

Tech entrepreneur enjoys SF Bay daysails, Potato Patch romps, and weekend trips to the Farallon Islands. I enjoy costume parties, picnics, and fun sailing with platonic-only friends and, occasionally, my gf. Cetacea is great with 4-8 crew.

What KB is saying about this Meetup Group

Cetacea has enjoyed meeting happy and celebratory crew on Meetup. We look forward to meeting more adventures-seeking crew aboard Cetacea in 2015!
