Re: [movement-72] What's next for the Bay Area Seasteading Meetups?

I sure wish I could have joined you on the boat last weekend (and hope that another such meetup can be organized), but am thrilled with the idea of visiting the Plastiki and working with that crew. ?That suggestion gets my top vote, followed by the sailing lessons and more movies on a boat meetups.

We should also heavily promote Patri's Seasteading presentation at the UC Berkeley Students for Liberty event April 6 in the Tilden Room at the MLK Student Union Building. ?

Hey everybody,

First off, thanks to everybody who came and totally packed the boat full of revellers this past Sunday. It's a good thing we had just enough life preservers for the 25 or so folks who braved the wind and cold to witness the sunset, the rock of the waves, the Bay Bridge AND the Golden Gate Bridge, and a very silly movie. Huzzah!

On to business...

Lately we've been trying hard to innovate with the meetups -- going to the Aquarium, watching movies at sunset on a boat, and so on. While these have been lovely and fun, we haven't been doing any of the "traditional" meetups: more along the lines of meeting up at a pub a night and having long involved "what if" and "what do you think about" sorts of discussions. I kinda miss that!

So I thought I'd ask you all as a group (a big, strong, healthy, diverse group at this point) what kinds of meetups you'd really like to see happen in the next few months. Feel free to reply in discussion or to me (Naomi) directly.

Should we try to have a "regular" monthly meetup at a fixed place just for conversation and cameraderie? In the past we've varied the place and location, but maybe it'd be best to keep it at a favorite spot.

If you've been to a pub meetup before, what's been your favorite spot? If you haven't, where do you think would be a great spot?

And we've still got a few "off the beaten path" meetups up our sleeves. If any of these jump out at you as can't-miss items, now's your chance to cast a vote.

1 - visit the Plastiki at Pier 29 in SF before it sets sail for Sydney (see )

2 - another film-on-a-boat adventure (lots of people couldn't come who wished they could)

3 - sitting in on a political science lecture (e.g. ) and going for dinner afterward

4 - SAILING! Getting a group discount on sailing lessons and learning to sail.

We're open to lots of ideas and opinions here. (It would be somewhat hypocritical of The Seasteading Institute not to be, right?) Again, feel free to respond in conversation on the meetup list or to me directly.

Vielen Dank, Gracias, Merci, Arigatou, Syea-Syea,
