How to Memorize Lists (for School or Business)

  • Needs a date

  • Needs a location

  • In this meetup we'll go over techniques for memorizing long lists with a practical application of the memory palace technique. If you haven't already memorized the names of all 44 US Presidents in order forwards and backwards, we'll try to accomplish that by the end of this meetup. If you already know all the US Presidents, I'll also bring a list of the Kings and Queens of England to memorize while you learn the technique.

If you have created a mnemonic system for numbers already, you can try to memorize the dates too. If you haven't finished your system for numbers yet, and you want to memorize the dates as well, send me an email with questions anytime before the meetup, and I could help you finish your mnemonic system for numbers.

This technique is very useful for memorizing schoolwork or business information. I use it every time I go shopping. Here are some examples of other things that this technique can be applied to:

    • Memorizing a history timeline
    • Memorizing geologic time periods
    • Memorizing recipes
    • Memorizing a list of names
    • Memorizing a to-do list
    • Memorizing logical fallacies

Basically, anytime you need to memorize facts that are in order, this technique is a great way to do it.

Date and location to be announced. --Josh

We'll be memorizing the presidents in San Francisco over here.
You can use the same technique for memorizing any list.

We all have our personal tricks we use to remember things. This looks like fun having a group doing this. I am in the medical field.

I am unfamiliar with all 44 presidents. I don't even know which ones I'd vote for or against If I had the opportunity to jump in a time machine and create a small ripple in history (not unlike the premise for the last episode of blackadder).
