Howdy dog-lovers! I'm Elmer, named for my tendency to glue myself to your side. But once I've settled into my forever home, my true independent self will emerge! My story has many twists and turns. I was found roaming around a high school campus and spent some time in high-kill shelter before my rescuers scooped me up. I'm now living with a foster family in San Francisco. City life is exciting so far! I love charming the other passengers on public transportation and scoping out all the fire hydrants. Although I am a little shy in new environments, it only takes me a day or two to come out of my shell. Once I get to know you, I'll stare up at you plaintively until you offer me a belly rub. I am a pretty mellow fellow who loves a walk around then neighborhood followed by some snuggling back at the ranch. As for my health, I'm up to date on all my shots and I've been microchipped and neutered. I have some small scars on my hind quarters where it looks like I was tossed around by a larger dog. He must have also done some damage to my left iris, but it doesn't slow me down one bit! When I arrived at my foster home I was a little underweight, but I love my new kibble and I'm packing on the ounces! I just had my nails trimmed and soon my squirrelly dew claws will be cut too. My goals for 2012 are to cut back on my accidents until I am fully housebroken and, of course, to get adopted! I am whip-smart and my training is going very well with the help of bacon-flavored treats. I would prefer a family who has some experience with dogs to help ease my transition, but that's not a deal-breaker. I'm right at home with small and medium dogs, and I warm up to big dogs that aren't too rambunctious. I'd do best in a family with children over the age of 8 since I prefer gentler hands. If you adopt me, I will reward you with a lifetime supply of tail wags and soft kisses.
