Humanism and Patriotism

As our nation celebrates the 4th of July, the question arises whether Humanists value Patriotism. As with our inquiries into Humanism's relation to Toleration and to Faith, the honest, accurate answer is almost certainly yes and no, depending. In what sense(s), then, do Humanists value Patriotism, especially in politically polarized times and under a Constitution that still works well in some ways and yet clearly needs some fine tuning? Join us on Saturday, July 5 for BAH's monthly roundtable discussion, facilitated by BAH Board Member and SFSU Political Science professor Marty Carcieri. Following the roundtable, we shall adjourn to a nearby restaurant for dinner.

This event is sponsored by the Bay Area Humanists.  To learn more about us, check out our website or Facebook page.

Another great discussion. Thanks for facilitating, Marty. So great to hear the many viewpoints we all have around one simple word, and how those viewpoints would influence each of our "answers" and understanding.
