Shawn Silverman brought robots from Bruce Boyes' Systronix which used SunSpots programmed in Java to sense and interact with the environment. The robots featured a network of peripheral infrared emitter-detectors which provided 360 degree awareness. Greenfoot was used to implement a 2D simulation of the robots and their sensors so that coders could prototype in Greenfoot and then downloaded to test in the robots. It was a great workshop!
