Net Neutrality is an often controversial topic, and one that many folks find they don't fully understand. Especially in the California tech arena, it's a topic that comes up a lot. Are you aware of net neutrality and how it could impact your business or organization? What issues should you be looking in to, and how can we, as tech users/builders help those in the legal world understand what we do and how their decisions would impact us?
Chris Witteman is a local attorney who has handled telecommunications matters for the California Public Utilities Commission for the last ten years. Before that, he represented consumers in various settings, from insurance to cable television to telephone utilities. In 1993, he and co-counsel from the ACLU obtained an injunction against cable company censorship of leased and public access channels in San Francisco. He got his start as a media activist at Public Media Center, working on Fairness Doctrine issues. He has published on net neutrality, and on comparative free speech law, including Constitutionalizing Communications in 2010 and the forthcoming Information Freedom.
Join us for October's NetSquared meeting, where Chris will present on the topic of net neutrality and build awareness on the legislation that is being considered in California right now. Come with your questions on this often confusing topic, and bring your feedback as well! Just as some techies may find this issue confusing; the legal world doesn't always understand the technical world, and this is a great opportunity for NetSquared members to have an impact.
