MongoDB at Zuberance, and Scaling with MongoDB

Building a Reporting Engine with MongoDB

Chris Carrier, Zuberance

"Zuberance is a small social marketing startup in San Carlos.  Over the past few months we have been developing a reporting engine powered by MongoDB which will be the core component of our business intelligence platform.  Our team had absolutely zero experience with MongoDB before this project started but have been extremely happy with the results so far.  I would like to talk about some of the misconceptions we had at the beginning and some of the mistakes we made along the way so hopefully others can avoid similar issues."

Scaling with MongoDB

Jared Rosoff, 10gen

This talk will discuss building a highly scalable backend infrastructure with MongoDB, from the perspective of a 10gen team member who has experience as a MongoDB power-user prior to joining the team.

@mamta: Compaction is currently a manual procedure. In 1.9 there is a "compact" command you can run. Prior to 1.9, you use the "repairDatabase" command. "compact" is faster than "repair" and runs in constant space. Normally this is done as a rolling procedure on the members of your replica sets.

Mamta, in response to your questions: If the document to be inserted is larger than any free block and the drive is full, then it will fail to insert. In the situation you describe, while you do have 50% of your drive free, there is not a slot big enough to place the document. You need to compact your data to reclaim that space before you can insert the document.

Very Informative and well organized. Chris did a great job at discussing how and why Zuberance uses MongoDB and Jared's presentation was very informative and easy to understand.

Scaling with MongoDB was great. The first talk from the guy at Zuberance was not very useful and dragged on too long. Having the experts from 10gen speak about MongoDB is the way to go with these types of Mongo Meetups.
