Groupon is looking for an exceptional Senior Engineering Manager to join the Fintech team to lead and grow a team responsible for an exciting new consumer facing project. The project is currently in stealth mode, working towards our initial MVP to be released in Q1. If it is successful this project could grow into the next billion-dollar Groupon business.

We are looking for a seasoned manager ready to engage hands-on with the small MVP team but be ready to switch gears to build a team that can scale the product to support hundreds millions of users.

We work in small, independent and collaborative teams to architect massively scalable and reliable systems.  Our focus is on getting high-quality code into production, our processes are fast and light with short cycles and automated testing and deployment.

We work extensively with Open Source technologies. Many of our team are active developers on open source projects and, we are working to release more of our technology into the open source world.

The kind of stuff you’ll be doing

  • Driving an engineering team through a Lean-Startup product discovery process

  • Working closely with the product team, business owners and executive stakeholders to define the strategic direction and report on progress.

  • Take the MVP prototype to full production scale

  • Build the team to support it

The kind of experience we expect

  • BS, MS, or Ph.D. in Computer Science or equivalent experience

  • At least 8 years experience - at least 3 years as a manager.

  • Track record of building cool, large-scale web applications and services

  • Expert in Java and/or Ruby

  • Familiarity with SQL database programming and performance

  • Excellent proficiency with *NIX development environments

  • Excellent understanding of how internet and Web technologies work

  • Strong communicator, both written and verbal

  • Highly effective technical leader

  • Proven ability to hire talented engineering teams
