Ride the Headlands ... and Golden Gate Park ... or both!

Easy-paced ride, waiting to regroup at hilltops. Meet at Sports Basement 9:15-9:30, roll out at 9:30 sharp.

We will start with the Golden Gate/Presidio circuit, which is about 16 miles and not too hilly. People can then choose to peel off or ride the Headlands loop, which adds about 19 more miles and is more hilly.

We meet at the picnic tables in the Sports Basement parking lot, just on the freeway side of the store's main entrance. The tables aren't under any kind of roof, they're beside the building.

Here is the approximate route.

Since I was the only taker for this ride, I changed the plan and rode up to Point Reyes Station, then back on the Cross Marin Trail. The heat got pretty oppressive through Samuel P Taylor Park, and was even worse passing Lagunitas where I stopped for cool drinks. The temperature continued to rise going over White's Hill and there was no relief on the descent. Sensing mild heat exhaustion, I stopped at Peets Coffee in Corte Madera where they gave me ice for my water bottle. That helped a lot, and it got me over the Meadowsweets climb and through the fierce headwind on the Mill Valley bike path. Once I got to Sausalito the chill wind off the Bay made any additional coolant unecessary. All in all, not an easy ride, but it was great to do a long solo ride again. It's been too long...
