Well, this was fun. Apparently the only dry spots left on me were my feet. Check the current avalanche advisory (http://www.sierraavalanchecenter.org/advisory). It makes for fun reading (and explains why we didn't go to the top). Thanks everybody, this was a nice trip.

OK Art, glad to hear you all braved the conditions. What a ride this event has been. First there was no snow, now there's too much snow....crazy!

      February 8, 2014

    • Wayne

Looks like you guys still had fun. Lot's of smiles in the photos. Way to stick with it.

      February 8, 2014

  • Stefan

Ha. When did this change to castle? Alright, that one works too. I did it last month but it's a fun one.

    February 7, 2014

    • Art

Stefan, please confirm that SMG has the right email address for you.

      February 8, 2014

    • Stefan

Found the emails. They were in my "social" tab on gmail, not the main inbox. I usually scan that one but I must have overlooked it. I get a ton of emails in that one. Anyways, thanks for sending the info.

      February 8, 2014

  • Erica

Could some one please bring a good snow shovel to help me dig out my car at the end of the day?

    February 7, 2014

    • David

      I've got one.

      February 7, 2014

  • Rick B.

Art, this may sound funny, but I've got a new little herd of cows this week that I need to keep an eye on with this upcoming storm. Hopefully someone can take my place. Have fun!

    February 6, 2014

    • Rick B.

Thanks for the advice, Brad! I intend to sell them. Cows+grass =$=Mountaineering!

      February 6, 2014

    • Peter

      What kind of "grass"?

      February 7, 2014

  • Art

I uploaded a map of Castle Peak - enjoy.

    February 7, 2014

    • Peter

Where is the link to the map??

      February 7, 2014

  • Gergo B.

I didn't want to drive this weekend, but if it comes down to it I have an AWD Subaru that'll fit 3 more.

    February 6, 2014

    • David

I'm going to disagree and say I love driving in the snow. And we should be good on room with Erica, stefan and me driving. Anyone bringing skis?

      February 6, 2014

    • Gergo B.

I love driving the Subie in the snow, but I drove people to the last 3 meet-ups and I figured it's my turn to sleep in the back seat. If you need another AWD though I'll drive.

      February 6, 2014

  • Erica

I have an AWD subaru as well. It will fit 4 more people with 3 people in the backseat. Will do my best to clean it up before hand, but I make no promises...

    February 6, 2014

    • Art

Wonderful, thank you! Please bring it to the meetup spot.

      February 6, 2014

  • Stefan

I'm part of the Subaru club too:) I have awd forester.

    February 6, 2014

    • Art

Wonderful, thank you! Please bring it to the meetup spot.

      February 6, 2014

  • Peter

Rain and snow predicted through Saturday. Is this trip still on??

    February 5, 2014

    • Art

As long as the roads are open and we can find enough folks with 4wd cars.

      February 5, 2014

  • David

Art, I have a jeep so I can take up to five and I'll have a roof box for anyone who wants to take skis.

    February 5, 2014

    • Art

Great, thank you! We need two more now.

      February 5, 2014

  • Eric

Not sure when I was added to the Yes column. I am unable to attend on this short of notice, sorry.

    February 4, 2014

  • Rob R.

Well, sorry everyone but I have to bail out of this one. I've been fighting a respiratory condition off and on for 5 weeks. I just don't see enough improvement to suggest I will be ready for the weekend.

    February 3, 2014

    • David

Bummer Rob, hope you get to feeling better.

      February 3, 2014

  • Gergo B.

I've been looking up topo maps all morning trying to figure out where I'm gonna go this weekend. Wasn't going to miss out on fresh snow even if it meant going by myself. Being able to attend this trip was just what I needed this morning! My new boots should arrive just before the weekend. I'm excited!

    February 3, 2014

    • Art

      Bring plenty of moleskin!

      February 3, 2014

    • Gergo B.

If I have time I may take them on a test drive a day or two beforehand.

      February 3, 2014

  • Art

Hey folks (especially new people who just joined the list) - does anyone need to borrow club gear for this event?

    February 3, 2014

  • Glenn

    Totes mcgoates, I'm in

    February 2, 2014

  • Sung

    • Art

Yeah, it's a long drive. Hope to see you some other time!

      1 · January 31, 2014

  • David

Looking forward to round top. I definitely want to check out the Crescent couloir while we're up there.

    January 31, 2014

    • Art

It's a nice couloir, one of the best in the Tahoe area. Comes in shape in April - May. High avalanche danger in winter.

      January 31, 2014

  • Rob R.

What are your thoughts on this trip, Art. Any alternatives ?

    January 24, 2014

    • brian w. h.

What about one of the couloirs on the Matterhorn peak as a back up?

      2 · January 24, 2014

    • Art

They are probably as dry as everything else. So is Tallac, it turns out. Unless there's new snow, I don't see any options for a SIG1 climb. We'll have to improvise something else.

      January 26, 2014

  • Art

Please read the trip description carefully. This is a very long and strenuous climb and the days are awfully short. To have any chance of reaching the summit, we'll need to climb[masked] ft per hour on virgin snow and at high elevation. Please assess your fitness level dispassionately, and be prepared to push hard.

    January 1, 2014

  • Art

Everybody who wants a spot on this trip: Please go to the official SMC website "right now" and put your name on the interest list there. If you are not interested, please take your name off the waitlist on Meetup. Darren and I will start the RSVP process for this trip very soon. Thanks!

Art, when is the next sig1 certification? Also, I've my eye on the Dana Couloir. It looks like a pretty cool ice climb. Would you be interested in making it a meet up?

    October 23, 2013

    • Art

In spring, Dana couloirs are for skiing. Ice season is late summer-fall. Latest update on conditions: http://www.summitpost.... We can post a question to see if anyone has an update.

      October 24, 2013

    • David

      Right on.
