MTN 3 April 18-19: SMC Mountaineering Level Three Training Course

  • Apr 18, 2014 · 8:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

MTN 3 is SMCs Alpine Climbing Course. This is the final level in the Mountaineering Training Course continuum, with advanced navigation on a 2-day circumnavigation on technical snow and rock, a snowy bivy around 12,000' and only what we can carry in one 36-hour push. You'll get an experience that will prepare you for multi-day routes at altitude and SMC expeditions. Course completion better qualifies you to attend club climbs that require MTN 3 skills, as well as an opportunity to sign off other proficiencies. All members are welcome to attend, but those who are proficient in the MTN 1 and 2 skillsets will be the best prepared. We have room for 8 students. For current SMC members only. Not a member yet? Join here.

Hey guys thanks again for being a part of our first SMC mountain 3 class. Kristi, Bryan, and Isabella. We had a great time with you this weekend and hope the bivys helped keep things real :)

Kristi, looks as if you may want to leave closer to 3am. I will be leaving after work on Thursday. I will bivy near Jackson and meet you ≈ 4:00 on Friday morning to carpool the rest of the way. That will provide us with 4 hours to make the 3hr20min drive and be @ the trail head by 8am. If you prefer to drive Thursday evening and bivy near the trail head, I'm game as well. It seems we could be there as early as midnight and get some sleep at the trail head.

As much as I appreciate the goals of these courses; that SMG members, through training and experience begin to function as a cohesive unit, aka a team, this damn apartment remodel is forcing me to shoulder responsibilities more than a rack. Also my wife's pending surgery looms.I guess at 55 ,adulthood has found another victim.Maybe April showers will bring May flowers.
