Midweek Roosevelt Island Hike

Join us for morning stroll around Roosevelt Island, we'll be stopping at sites of historic and natural interest including the memorial to Theodore Roosevelt, wetlands, the riverbank, upland forest habitats, and views across the Potomac to Georgetown and the Kennedy Center. We will hike in (light) rain or shine. Meetup page will be updated with weather forecast and any last-minute changes the night before; or you may contact the leaders if you have any questions.
Distance, pace, and surface: approximately 2.0 mi.; easy pace along natural trails.
What to bring: plenty of water and snacks. Wear comfortable footwear or hiking boots/shoes, insect repellent, and sunscreen.
Meeting place: In the parking lot just off the George Washington Memorial Parkway at 10:00 AM to sign waiver, we leave at 10:15 AM sharp, return at 12 Noon; option of having lunch next to the Potomac River on the east side of the island.
Nearest Metro: Rosslyn station. Carpooling: Those interested in carpooling can use the comments section on the Meetup announcement to make arrangements.
Facilities: there are restrooms on the island.
Parking: there is plenty of parking just off the parkway.
Fee: None. SCPRO appreciates a donation of $2 per person to support our many volunteer-led activities and leader training. You will be able join the hike even if you’re unable to donate.
