Needs a location
The big doghouse in the sky welcomed a new friend today......many of you hiked with Max and remember him as a very special part of our Meetup family. We will celebrate his life together on a hike that welcomes all, and especially our doggie friends. We will enjoy bubbles and liquid bubbles with a toast to Max.
Every year I make a donation to the Middletown Humane Society on Max's birthday (the date I got him) which is October 17th. If anyone wishes to join my donation you may contribute any time between now and then.
We will hike our usual Stewart Buffer Lands from Ridge Road (Coldenham). We will dine (pizza crust!) at Union Square post-hike. I will enjoy pizza as that was one of Max's favorite treats, the pizza crust afterwards will now go to Sandi.
Cheers to all, give your dogs a hug for me today. :-)
We will explore the old roads that became the buffer lands for Stewart Airport. This is nothing strenuous, just a chance to get out and get some exercise before we enjoy a nice meal at Union Square in Newburgh.
Stewart State Forest is the area around Stewart Airport, also known as the Stewart Buffer Lands. Wear your hiking boots or sturdy walking shoes......it is rolling terrain, beginners welcome and anyone who loved Max. It won't quite be a gentle walk in the park if that's what you're looking for but it's nothing difficult. Some may not want to go the whole distance with us, no problem if you want to go slow and enjoy the day. We will meet up back at the parking lot before we go dine.
Bring WATER and your sense of adventure, camera, tissues, sunglasses.
We will head to Union Square (93 Rt. 17K, Newburgh) for dinner afterwards, yummy food and great service.
Please send me your cell if I don't have it, I will return with mine. Horribly nasty rain cancels. Light rain may not, rain gear is always a good investment if you're serious about hiking. If weather is a problem check your computer for updates. $2 Meetup fee today will go to the Middletown Humane Society. You are free today if it's your first event or if you've enjoyed 50 events in my groups. You may still want to make a donation, I won't say no. :-)
ALL HIKES ARE AT YOUR OWN RISK and you will need to sign a waiver to participate.
Meet at the Ridge Road parking area. It is off Rt. 17K just past Coldenham Rd, follow the link attached. There is an abandoned gas station and a traffic light at this intersection, it's just past Dempsey Pipe if you know the Coldenham area on 17K.
GPS people, be careful if your GPS wants you to go THROUGH the buffer lands, the roads show up on your GPS but are closed to vehicles. Weed Road and Ridge Road are not through roads. Please look carefully at my directions/map below!!!!!
The map title says Elk Pen but the blue marker is in the right place. It is in the lower left corner when the map first opens up, don't go to the other blue markers, look for Rt. 84 just by the blue marker. :-) http://maps.google.com/maps/ms?client=firefox-a&hl=en&ie=UTF8&t=h&msa=0&msid=107708403489681552409.00047f0313cdfe73b18f4&ll=41.513631,-74.156309&spn=0.001988,0.004823&z=18
