Rock on!!!! For those who have enjoyed our past Geology Hikes with Charles, we have put together another adventure into the fabulous world of rocks.
On Sunday, September 30 we will travel to Ogdensburg, NJ and have a private guided tour of the Sterling Hill Underground Mine and Mining Museum. This region is known around the world for it's famous fluorescent minerals which you will experience in the mine itself. For those that want to play with rocks, after the tour you can do a dig for an extra fee of $5 + $1.50/pound taken. Charles will supply hammers, you can't bring yours unless it is a proper rock hammer.
Also the same day, nearby is the Franklin Mineral and Gem show which Charles will provide info on when we get close.
For more info go to https://www.sterlinghillminingmuseum.org/
The tour starts at 11 AM. The tour will cost $11 each. You can pay that day. Please contribute to gas and tolls.
The adventure will start in Central Valley where we will gather to carpool from Chicago Uno/Dunkin Donuts right by the thruway. The trip is less than an hour from there. I can take 3 or 4 in my car, others will need to be drivers if we go over my car's capacity.
We will gather at 9:30 and leave at 9:45 sharp. For those in Middletown you should carpool together, if you meet at WalMart it is a 50 minute trip. Please post where you will be meeting us.
If you want the whole experience you should agree on that before the carpool so everyone is on the same page that is in the same car.
Preference will go to those who have attended our Geology hikes. Limit 20. No guests, dogs, hamsters or pogo sticks.
Wear sturdy shoes or boots. You may want to bring water, lunch or snacks, depending on our involvement it sounds like a long day. We will dine on the way home.
$2 Meetup fee. If you send me your cell I will return with mine. Happy rocks!!!!
