It was very interesting to hear what everyone thought about the book and which parts of the book more catch them. As much as we all read the same book, our thought about the book were somewhat/totally different, to hear and learn about all of those really stimulating me. Today, I learn more about someone through how they think about the book …….. that is nice & interesting.
I wish everyone read the book were there with us.

Thank you, Maggie, Gretchen & Leticia!

I'm at Buffalo/Spring Mountain. It's kind of you to offer to host at your house, but I have been running a book group for the past 18 months and my advice would be to hold it at a quiet restaurant, especially when it's on meetup.com, where anybody can join up

how about something from this list: http://www.readinggroupguides.com/findaguide/best_of_enduring.asp
I think it's important to find books that are not just a good read, but also offer opportunity for an interesting discussion for an hour or so.
none of these in this list are that new, so the library should have plenty of copies

    July 13, 2013

Claire, start from you, how about suggest three?

Well, to begin with this list (to narrow things down a bit), I am just about to read Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, have never read it but it is supposed to be thought-provoking. I have read the following and think they would be good for discussion: The Devil in the White City by Erik Larson, Brave New World by Aldous Huxley, We Need to Talk About Kevin by Lionel Shriver. I have heard good things about the following: A Tree Grows In Brooklyn by Betty Smith, The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien, The Red Tent by Anita Diamant. I know that's more than three but that's me and books - I can't keep to a limit! ;-)

      July 13, 2013

  • Mimi

    Everyone,
let's select top three books you like to read and post here. I will make a poll, will list all the books suggest by you and then I will ask you to choice six of the books that you like to read. The top on the list the one had most votes will be the first to read........please be open mind and at least give someone - it would be you a chance to share what they most interested in (I won't select any so you all will have more chances) ........
I will like to host this at my home (west of 215/Eastern) or central location - Town Square, let me know what you think.
    Let's get this rolling.....

Great idea, Rachel! As it seems many of us are new at this, there may be some good book club resources to help direct us. I have so many books on my "to-read" list, but here's a few: The Fault in our Stars, A Thousand Splendid Suns, The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society, The Gargoyle. Yay I'm excited to read with you all!!

    July 12, 2013

We can get a list of popular book club books and model what we read after that???? I just checked a couple out and there are a lot of books listed that I've read or would like to read.
