This was great to see so many people in support of the State Bank; however, the lobbyists were there and pushing themselves. 4 of the 7 members of this committee have received maximum contributions from Bank of America or its PAC. After the meeting Se. Hobbs (the Chair) gave a big hug to the a bank lobbyist. We know which side he is on (he is one of the 4). So democratic process isn't working because of the money and the influence of these groups.

It was great to see 90+ citizens packing the hearing room. No one came to oppose the bill except for paid lobbyists and members of the State Treasurer's staff. They were all given as much time as they wanted to speak while all the rest of us were forced to cram our statements down into 60 seconds. Money buys access.

The hearing went well, but since the lobbyist for the banking industry hugged the Chairman of the Committee after the hearing, I'm not feeling too optomistic, even though it was standing room only for the many supporters fo the bill who spoke on its behalf.

Be early and bring written comments. We will likely only be allowed to speak for one minute each. Thanks for attending this hearing. Regards, David Spring

If you want to see a State Bank started here in Washington here is your opportunity to attend the State Hearing. Just the presence of bodies can make a huge impact. Here is your chance to act for something positive that will help us in the state and take power away from Bank of America, which is where are tax dollars go to.
