The command line environment can be a powerful tool in a developer's toolkit. Learning to use it well can make you a more productive and more versatile developer.

This presentation is an introduction to the use of the shell as a development environment. The talk will go over the basics of shell navigation, including shortcuts that will make your experience less frustrating.

The presentation will also briefly cover some of the useful *nix tools for web developers.


Brian Dailey is CTO and co-founder of the healthcare market analytics company Stratasan. He got his start in computer with MS-DOS 5.0, and he distinctly remembers being annoyed that Windows 95 booted into a GUI. A longtime Linux user, he enjoys the simplicity and reliability of the command line toolkit.
