What is the name of your business?

Biomedical Research Software as a Service (BRISSKit)

Does your business mainly use or mainly produce software?

both creation and use of software but emphasis on adapting and integrating reusable OS software service for UK biomedical research via internally or cloud hosted solutions

What kind of business issue are you trying to address?

BRISSKit is developing a national shared service with Jisc to be made available over the JANET UK academic network and can host, implement and deploy open source biomedical research database applications that support the management and integration of tissue samples with clinical data and electronic patient records. We are uniquely positioned to tackle this through our experience in developing the pioneering open source IT infrastructure for the Biomedical Research Informatics Centre for Cardiovascular Science in the NIHR Leicester Cardiovascular Biomedical Research Unit (BRU). BRISSKit is also being piloted with 2 new BRUs in Leics (Respiratory and Lifestyle) and Cancer Biobank as well as collaborating with external groups e.g. at UCL and Birmingham. We are planning with Jisc to sustain an end service which can be managed and maintained in future years and will have templates available for reuse elsewhere.

Lead for Jisc funded Biomedical Research Software as a Service (BRISSKit) since 2011 at University of Leicester partnering with UHL NHS Trust. Senior Research Fellow & lead Health & Research Data Informatics group. http://www.brissk...
