Oak Woodland Loop at El Chorro Regional Park

Details

Join us for one of the loveliest little woodland hikes in SLO, the Dairy Creek-Eagle Rock loop. We'll start at the botanical garden in El Chorro Regional Park and make our way up Dairy Creek Road, looping through a beautiful oak woodland. If we're lucky, we might see turkey, deer, woodpeckers, and other woodland critters along the way!

Important Notes: While this is a short 2-mile loop, it is not a flat walk. We will be walking up hilly terrain for about 2/3 of the walk. Please know your abilities and plan accordingly. Also note that we will not be taking the short but steep offshoot to the top of Eagle Rock on this walk. I have intentionally left it out to make this hike more accessible to more people.

Where to Park: Go through the kiosk (there is no day use fee during the week) and park just past the playground in the dirt lot across from the brown Botanical Garden building.
Duration: 1 hr
Distance: 2 miles (total)
Elevation Gain: Around 250 feet
Terrain: Shady oak woodland
Walk Type: Lollipop loop
Dogs: Please leave your furry friends home for this one
Bathrooms: There is a bathroom not far from our starting point where we can stop on the way out/back if needed.
What to Bring:

  • Sturdy shoes
  • Water
  • Light jacket/layers
