Our mission is to mitigate, adapt, and build resilience to climate change and to increase biodiversity through planting trees. TOGETHER.
CONNECT WITH EACH OTHER AND OUR TREES!
The root cause of our climate and ecological crises is actually a spiritual crisis. One that manifests as a disconnection from nature, each other, ourselves, and the present moment. Let's rebuild these connections and restore nature by planting trees, together.
WHAT DO WE DO?
We build community around trees. We host fun, engaging tree planting events so that neighbors meet and connect with each other, plant trees together, and become long-term stewards of their trees.
We look to Friends of Trees in Portland (https://friendsoftrees.org/) as an amazing example of such community building and tree stewardship. We are growing the same program here in San Luis Obispo.
ALL ARE WELCOME
We strive to be a safer and welcoming place for everyone. We welcome members regardless of age, ability, race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, political views or economic status.
Your RSVP is your word that you will show up. Please RSVP only when you know you can make it and remember to keep your RSVP up to date if your plans to attend happen to change.
Reasons for this include other members counting on you to show up, showing respect for the organizers' efforts, and even the amount of food that gets made for certain events.
2. PROFILE PHOTOS ARE REQUIRED
SLO Tree Friends only accepts members with clear photos of their face set as the main photo in their profile. This must be maintained for the duration of your membership. Requests to join from people without proper photos will be declined. Photos are required so that we can put a face-to-a-name when we meetup in person.
Please join us at the first annual Urban Forest Awareness Day hosted by the City of San Luis Obispo, Urban Forest Services.
SLO Tree Friends will have a booth at the event and will be showing a documentary on our very own SLO Urban Forest. Please come by and introduce yourself! Hope to see you there!
