Details
We'll be backpacking and overnight camp along one of the great divide trail spots at Fording River Pass. Actual campsite will depend on weather conditions. Note there are no facilities. Note there will be one possible wet feet creek crossing. depends on water levels then. Trail head meet location will be sent to you just prior to the event but it will be within 2 hrs drive south of the city. We'll be de-camping just after breakfast. Expect any kind of weather conditions including cold conditions and possible snow on the ground. There will be no shared equipment. You're expected to be self sufficient. If you've never random camped before, good opportunity to try things out. We'll be heading to a nearby town for lunch after. If you can't do all activities please don't sign up.
Distance: Approx 13Km one way.
Elevation Gain: 800 meters approx.
Event Pace: 4 to 5 hr hike in (see bit about lightweight gear)
Meal planning: Inbound lunch on trail. 1 dinner and 1 breakfast. We'll be stopping over at a nearby town on the way back for lunch.
Note withdrawal cut off time. Will need a minimum of three persons for this to be a go else I might as well solo it. RSVP only if you are firm.
Any questions let me know.
Required equipment:
- Bear Spray
- a lightweight backpack total weight not more than 30lbs.
- Usual Backpacking Equipment Not going to need everything on this list but its a good place to start. The lighter the better. With my ultralight pack setup, I'll be having a day hike compared to traditional backpack setups.
- Bear vault, canister, ursack. No hang.
- Trowel for cat holes (or find a really good stick)
This is a fun anything goes trip. If you are uptight about stuff, might not be the trip for you. If you can't do all activities, this event is not for you. Sorry no dogs. If needed we'll carpool from town in the south if needed. Gas Fee contribution: $20.00 per person from Calgary. Indicate if you can drive or be a passenger. I'll definitely be driving. Note there is no cell reception where we are going.
