Waking Life is a film about an unnamed young man living an ethereal existence that lacks transitions between everyday events and that eventually progresses toward an existential crisis. For most of the film he observes quietly but later participates actively in philosophical discussions involving other characters—ranging from quirky scholars and artists to everyday restaurant-goers and friends—about such issues as metaphysics, free will, social philosophy, and the meaning of life.
I'm hosting this as part of the Philosophy in Dublin meetup but wanted to cross post to see if there would be additional interest. It will be a small group and the focus will be on philosophical topics in the film. But don't worry! If you just want to watch the film and enjoy then you're free to go.
The film will start at 7 PM or shortly after. You are more than welcome to arrive anytime after 6:30 PM and to bring any beverages you may want (I'll have coffee, tea, water handy). I'll also pick up some snacks but feel free to make suggestions. I'm pretty laid back about these things.
After the film, we can discuss or walk down the road to Gleeson's Pub and have a drink. It's intended as relatively informal so no worries.
Other Info: Because I have no idea what the interest in this will be, I am initially going to keep this small and hold it at my own house so that we do not have any costs involved. If this proves popular I can look at getting a larger venue but that might mean an entry fee to help with the costs. I have a dog named Reggie. He is very friendly and bashful. He will most likely want to be your friend and will sleep through the film. Just mentioning in case you are allergic or don't like dogs.
