JavaScript Drinkup

There are two new JS related groups in LA, SoCal.js & jQuery LA, and both are long overdue for a happy hour meetup, so we decided to just throw one together on short notice.

We're shooting for this Wednesday (6/23) in Santa Monica around 7. Someone is looking into reserving the upstairs at Barney's on the Promenade. If that doesn't work, there are tons of bars/restaurants in that area, so we'll be able to find a place. If anyone else has a suggestion, let me know.

Once we get an exact time & location I'll give an update, but I at least wanted to send out this invite so people could put it on their calendars. If you can't make it, don't worry. This is really just JS nerds getting together for beers and socializing, no presentations or anything this time.

P.S. jQuery LA is @ http://meetups.jquery...

I had a great time, really good turnout, good conversations, and good drinks! Everyone was easy to talk to, and just really open to contributing to the group, making for a great atmosphere.

Great turn out. Lots of potential. Great oportunity to get acquainted with some really skilled developers.

It was great to see people from all kinds of different development backgrounds. I learned a lot about some topics I've been interested in lately in just a few conversations... so I'm really looking forward to the next meetup.

Think of it like an open-source project. There might be a time to fork it down the road, but let's get a few commits in before we go down that path. As long as it is JavaScript-related, I have no problem promoting it within SoCal.js, even if it is a library-specific event. We could all use some diversity in library knowledge.

I just wonder if there won't be conflict with some people not being interested in seeing presentations on frameworks they don't intend to use. Im not too concerned about it, we can figure it out at the meetup tonight.

I don't see any reason not to merge the two groups. The technologies are part and parcel. Worst case you get additional exposure to other javascript frameworks and what they have to offer, not a bad thing.

Besides the jquery LA group has yet to have a meeting from the sounds of it so not really much to merge is there?

we should probably decide if we are going to merge with SoCal.js or have our own separate group jQuery LA group. If we go separate we should set up a jQuery LA meetup.com account since it's a much better tool than meetups.jquery.com

As far as I know there is only the page on meetups.jquery.com.

Is there a corresponding group page on meetup.com for jQuery LA or do I have to sign up on the meetups.jquery.com site?
