U.S.S. Iowa Battleship Tour

  • Nov 18, 2012 · 10:00 AM
  • This location is shown only to members

Built in 1940, the USS IOWA served our country for over 50 years. Designated the "World's Greatest Naval Ship" due to her big guns, heavy armor, fast speed, longevity and modernization, she kept pace with technology for more than 50 years.

Now in her new home of Los Angeles, USS IOWA is transforming into the most interactive and educational museum of her kind.

The Pacific Battleship Center has many exciting tours and programs planned for guests aboard the USS IOWA. Currently, visitors can explore many of the USS IOWA's main features on a self-guided tour. General admission for adults 18 - 61 is $18. For more details go to: www.pacificbattleship.com.

Note: The deadline for group discount tickets has passed. You can still get a ticket though at the box office on the day of the event. Please RSVP so we know who's attending.

*** 11/15/12 UPDATE ***

Ahoy Smarties!

The front lot by the ship has been taken over by a flight simulator company. The Pacific Battleship Center said to park in the designated parking area closest to the ship where we can still take pictures. Please arrive early so we can get these spots. I plan on being there at 9:30 am. They will have the wristbands ready so we can board the ship at 10:00 am.

See you Sunday at the "Battleship of Presidents!"

Thank you for the video. Really enjoyed watching it, especially seeing our little cars in front of this huge dreadnought.

I wish we could see more of the ship, Engine room, Crew quarters, inside Gun turrets, But the tour was very interesting.

This was a great day! Great job, Victor. Touring the ship with my Dad was special, as was having my family there AND being with the Smarties. Dad was kind of surprised when one of docents saw his USS Boxer hat and said he'd been on the USS Princeton, the Boxer's sister ship. (and I grew up on Princeton St., where Mom and Dad still live!) We had a great meal at 22nd St. Landing Seafood restaurant, and then we went to the Wayfarer's Chapel about 10 mi. away. It was built by Frank Lloyd Wright's son. Yep, a great way to spend one's birthday :)

Thanks for coming Jan! Glad you enjoyed the tour and it was a special time for your dad. The Wayfarer's Chapel is one of my favorite places on the Palos Verdes Peninsula. Very scenic. Happy birthday again and see you at the next Smarties event!

I have moved the time for the caravan to meetup to 8:00am and we will depart at 8:15am sharp for San Pedro. This is so we can have our little cars photographed with this famous battleship @ 9:30am. We meet at the Staples/Best Buy parking lot on the North side of the 210 frwy. at the Mountain Ave exit on the Monrovia/Duarte border. This is the Mountain Ave. that is 2 exits west of the 605 frwy. There is a 7/11 there & restrooms. Please let me know if you would like to join this caravan and bring your walkie/talkie set for Ch. 12.

The deadline for group discount tickets has passed. You can still get a ticket though at the box office on the day of the event. Please RSVP so we know who's attending.

Smarties who have pre-paid will be getting wrist bands when the box office opens at 10 am. They'll give us all the details on lunch in the Crew Mess Hall too.

Please arrive a little early and drive your smart to the front of the ship for a photo op by Pacific Battleship Center personnel (and us smarties). I plan on being there a little after 9:30 am. Note: this is not a designated parking area so we'll have to move to one when done.

Looking forward to another fun Smarties event!

Hello everyone, I have to turn in the money tomorrow (11/8). If you haven't paid yet, you must do it by PayPal in order to get the group discount. If you miss the deadline, no worries, you can still go, you will just have to pay the full price.

Great place to celebrate your bday Jan. And yes, you can definitely do what you want!

    October 17, 2012

  • Jan Clapperton A.

Our plan is to be there in our Smart so we help build the "mass of Smarts" in the parking lot, but then join my parents & sisters/bro-in-laws for the tour, and have lunch on our own somewhere... after all, it'll be my bday that day, & I can do what I want! :)
