This group was started to allow a variety of technical and non-technical people to get together and learn from each other, discussing ideas and networking.
More about the group:
Some of the events have "warmup" notes (i.e. stuff to read before the event) and followup notes (stuff to read that comes from notes taken at the events). These are located in the "Files" section for the group.
Future events are often grown from seeds of ideas discussed at events - someone asks a question, and it becomes apparent that many people would attend an event to figure out an answer to the question.
Note: Activities of this group include technical and non-technical discussion, and networking and some marketing, yet it is not a group for for network marketing (MLM). Marketing can be fine - marketing a business you own or are starting as the owner can occur during normal flow of event discussions and conversations, via comments about the capabilities offered by the business that are related to this group.
However, members will be removed for activities around presenting a business or product or promotion that conflicts with the spirit of the group, including posting off-topic content or links (other than on members' own profiles). Examples include sharing with group members at events, via group-related posts or email, or intending to share, business opportunity or services that involve signing up people under you where you earn a direct cut of their sign-up fee. Agressive sales or marketing is not in line with the group. Similar tactics or sales presentations need to be agreed in advance by the organizer. While some network marketing/matrixed/pyramid-structured business opportunities have products that may relate to this space (web/video/tech), be respectful of what this group is all about: learning and sharing from each other in an open and unpressured manner. There are other groups designed for making network marketing pitches - however, this group is for pitch-free technical and non-technical exchanges of information, tips, and contacts.
Members are encouraged to exchange tech or new media job (paid position or volunteer) leads, and to request information from members on similar services needed (such as "I'm looking for a PHP guru with design skills"). Members in return are encouraged to describe their own services (for their own company/consulting capability) in response to postings.
