May 2014 meeting (Failte) -- Tokyo Socrates Cafe

The topic for this month is "What causes bullying, and what can be done to stop it?"

We'd like to discuss a number of issues related to the phenomenon of bullying, including what motivates the behavior and how it can be prevented. For an example of different angles on this subject, you may wish to read this article documenting bullying in Japanese schools, and this commentary introducing cases of bullying observed in other species.

Please note that we will be conducting this event in two groups at different locations. You can check the RSVP status of both on the main page, and sign up for whichever you prefer.

As always:

1) The main discussion will be held from 3:00pm to 5:00pm,with more open conversation afterward for however long people wish to stay.

2) More information about Failte can be found at their webpage.

3) Though there is no charge for the meetup, please order at least a drink or a snack at Failte as they have been kind enough to allow us to use their space without any charge.

4) Please keep your RSVP as up-to-date as possible, even if you're updating on the morning of the meeting.

5) Please try to be on time. If you'll be more than 30 minutes late, please consider joining us after we finish around 5:00pm.

Hi, guys. One of my favorite tv dramas "Watashitachi no Kyoukasho" (Our Textbook) well describes Japan's "Ijime" (bullying) problem. Most of it may overlap the article (On Being Bullied in Japan) but I think it has more. If you have time to spare, try googling it :)
    # I posted this comment both May meetings just in case.
