What we’re about
SofaTalks is a discussion club in English.
If you like discussions and want to meet new and interesting people while improving your English skills, you are very welcome.
We meet on Tuesdays at 18:05 (CET) sometimes on Zoom and other times, in person IRL.
This group is for reflective people interested in speaking English while exploring a wide array of topics related to everything from cultural practices to current events to philosophy, religion and sociology. The format will have a bit of structure allow everyone who indicates a desire to speak (raise their hand and wait to be called upon) to have their say without interruption. We begin with a round of introductions that typically include name, where you are from and anything else of interest you want to share. This gives us a cultural framework and level of comfort with one-another. Respect for everyone is expected. Please no harsh tones or words or long speeches.
If you want to get to know some thoughtful people while improving debating skills and speaking English, join us. Whether you are someone with opinions and deep reflection or just looking to learn and engage in conversation about interesting subjects, our meetings offer a supportive and stimulating environment. Let's exchange ideas and expand our cultural awareness, knowledge, inter-personal and spiritual strengths in a congenial yet structured, welcoming setting. Maybe you'll even make some friends.
You can come just to listen but please introduce yourself at the beginning of the group. It makes those participating feel more comfortable to know who is present. No recording or screen shots, when we meet online - we want everyone to feel safe discussing sensitive topics freely.
The "English Debate Clube" has been going since 2012, and Sofa Talks took up from that (in the Language Exchange Stockholm Meetup where it began) in more recent years. It has always been a blend of cultures and backgrounds. Nice to have you in the community.
