Let's get things going

I am still waiting to hear back from Pluralsight to get some things setup for us, but I also don't want to let too much time go by without putting something in our calendars.

Our main goal this time will be to get to know each other, go over the format of the study group, and get underway.

The building doors close at 6:00 (thus our start time). If you arrive past 6:00, call or txt[masked] and I'll go open the door for you.

Thanks to those who responded with your course preferences. Looking at the responses I got, it seems like the main interests are: Advanced HTML5, JavaScript (advanced topics & patterns) & JQuery (especially UI). One course that touches all of those topics is "Single Page Apps with HTML5, Web API, Knockout and jQuery" (Thanks Jack for pointing it out). Here's he link to the course details: http://pluralsight.com/training/courses/TableOfContents?courseName=spa&highlight=john-papa_spa-m5-the-single-page*2,1#spa-m5-the-single-page There are some folks that have indicated preferences in subjects that will not be covered in this first course (I'm one of them). We'll get to those courses in time, I promise. In the mean time, I hope you still join us. If you happen to be a Jedi Master in these first topics, come along, we can certainly learn from your experience. Hey, did you notice we have an official logo now? :)

    See you Monday

Ok, while we're waiting on Pluralsight to give us the green light, I thought we could use the time to figure out which course to get things going with. So now you have homework, even before we get going ;) Looking at the responses I got when you joined the group, the top two areas of interest are:
    • Mobile
    • Web: HTML 5, JavaScript, CSS

Based on that I took the following course categories out of the Pluralsight library. Each category has several courses within. I would appreciate if you could take a look the specific courses and send me your top 3 in order of preference. I'll compile the answers and come up with the one that we'll start with.

    • Windows phone 7
    • Windows 8
    • iOS
    • Mobile Frameworks
    • Jquery
    • Javascript
    • HTML 5
    • CSS

jQuery UI, iOS Intro Part 1, and I'll leave off my third vote, because I wish they had more CSS By Example-type stuff, because I've watched their primary video and still struggle with CSS a lot.

Do you know yet what the first topic will be? I think very highly of their videos and turning it into a social thing sounds great.

I do not have a topic yet; at this point I just wanted to put the first meeting in the calendar. I will send an update as soon as I have a topic selected.
