Climb Mt. Adams

I am seeking 1 to 2 people to summit Mt. Adams on a weekend with me. I am a 53 y/o female who has had a little practice traveling w/ice axe/crampons & would feel more comfortable to have a companion or 2 to accompany me. I consider myself a "moderate hiker"...6 to 13 mi days are typical. I've summited Mt. McCloughlin, Thielsen, S. Sister, & Shasta solo. Mt.Hood I've summited w/a team.

We would leave Friday evening & arrive late at Mt. Adams spending the night at the South Climb Trailhead #183. The following morning we would take the entire day ascending/descending the mountain (weather permitting). The trail begins at 5,600 ft & summit is 12,276 ft.

I do have Mondays off from work so a 3-day journey would be an option allowing us to spend Sat. night at what is called "The Lunch Counter" at 7,800 ft (just above the Crescent Glacier).

By the way, Eric, I did find extra USGS topo maps...Mt Adams is divided into two sections...west & east.

Hi, Eric! I'll meet you at Grants Pass Albertson's at 6:30pm if that is ok with you. I'll phone you after I call Ashland Outdoor & let you know how much my boots, crampons & ice axe rental will total...I really appreciate you picking them up for me. I am looking forward to hiking Mt Adams & we may have 3/4 of the moon to light our path if the sky is fairly clear. Talk to you soon.

Hi, Rachaell, Beckie, & Eric! Please phone me [masked]) to discuss Mt. Adams. I am fine with heading up Fri. evening & returning Sun. evening. It sounds as if returning Monday may be tough for some people. I hiked up Mt. Shasta w/my 19 year old son this last Sunday...we chose a non-technical route...it was his 1st time & my 4th time...we had a nice time...you know, we got a little mother-son bonding...very sweet. I have not had a reply from Edward so I suspect he is unable to take the trip Sept. 5 (I believe he'll be teaching during that time). I would like to chat with each of you & discuss our skill levels & what each of our expectations might be. I love your interest & look forward to chatting with you. Warmly, Mari.

Hi Mari, --I'm Eric. New to Ashland, but not new to mountaineering. I think Adams could be great fun. I'd love to discuss routes, etc. I've summitted Rainier (unguided) on the Emmons route and completed 95% of the Ptarmigan traverse in the North cascades last summer that involved traversing a dozen or so glaciers and sustained snowfield travel. Given this, I think Adams is a suitable objective. I'd love to talk more about this trip as I'm interested but also have had my share of close calls/worries up on the glaciers. The timing is impeccable since I take my big graduate school entrance exam on the 5th and the test gets done at about 5:00 pm in Medford. feel free to message, chat! thanks for posting!

I might be interested, but do not have Monday off. Are you both set on a three day trip?

I can hike but do we need to do the ice climbing portion? Not up for that...call me scaredy kat.

When I speak of a 3-day journey, I mean drive to trailhead on a Fri. evening & spend the night there...Sat. hike to The Lunch Counter, set up camp & spend night...Sun. head up to summit with an early start before sunrise, then return to camp at L.C., pack up & head to trailhead where we would spend night, & lastly, drive back to Southern Oregon on Monday.
