A rigorous cold front has traveled through southern Oregon. It has been accompanied by strong winds and snow at higher elevations, above 8000 ft in the mountains. This cold snap will continue until Sunday, at which time more moderate conditions will prevail. From my home in Klamath Falls, I was able to see snow on Mt MacLaughlin. The low temperatures in the Klamath Falls, area are to drop to freezing the next two nights, reflecting that the ice and snow on Mt MacLaughlin will hang around , at least through Sunday.

I am NOT cancelling my posted hike for Saturday for Mt MacLaughlin. However due to the conditions cited, I will only organize the hike up to a lookout called Sandy Saddle which is 8200 ft . There is a panoramic view from this point. You will be able to see the peak, 1300 ft up and 1.2 miles ahead.

Hikers who are set on a summit hike,  please withdraw your name from this meet-up hike.  New hikers who feel comfortable with this change may add their names to the meet up list.
