Thanks Nena. So should we bring £ sterling in cash, us $ in cash and/or bank card? Thanks for your advice

Hi Nena, please confirm if we need currency for both Thailand and Laos i.e. Baht and kip?
Also, although subjective, do you have an idea of average spending money per day for food etc? Thanks for your help x

    November 17

    • Nena

Hi Penny, You will need currency for both although you will need to change once over there. The tour guide will help with that if needed. Thailand is very reasonable to eat out etc whereas you may expect to pay a bit more in Laos but also depending on where you eat.. I would maybe budget USD[masked] per day..thanks Nena

With what airline did you all book your trip? I don't seem to find one for the 25th?

    November 15

    • Nena

Hi Meli, there are direct flights with Thai Airways or cheaper indirect flights with Malaysian Airlines that will get you there for the 26th. Would recommend checking skyscanner.com for best priced flights. Thanks, Kate

Hi Nena, are there any malaria tablets you recommend? My GP has given me 3 options:
    Mefloquine- 1 tablet weekly
    Doxycycline-1 tablet daily
    Atovaquone/Proguanil- 1 daily
    Many thanks Penny

Hi Penny, Unfortunately I don't have any medical experience so would highly recommend taking professional advice. Not sure why your GP has offered options, they generally recommend rather than you having to choose. thanks Nena

Can you tell me how much walking will there be - when I read through I could see the climb down (and then presumably back out) of a deep cave, not too sure about the other days. I've got problems walking more than about a 100 metres.

    • Nena

Hi Mike, unfortunately the trip is quite fast paced so you would be doing at least a couple of hours of walking each day. Thanks, Kate

This is an appealing itinerary - I've been before to Bangkok and Luang Prabang but the opportunity to see Northern Thailand and the Upper Mekong in Laos is lovely, especially for anyone who saw the wonderful Sue Perkins TV documentary on the river.

Be aware of the temperature changes - warm in Thailand and Vientiane and could be suddenly chilly up North. I had New Year's Eve in Luang Prabang two years ago after three weeks of sunny tropical temperatures in Vietnam and Cambodia and we (a) ate dinner with blankets round us and bowls of hot coals placed under the tables and (b) all went to bed by 11 because we were perishing! Also because we had to be up at 5 to go feed the monks on New Year's Day. If I do it, I'd also want to go to the River Kwai for the JEATH museum and railway - maybe Nena's Thai agent could offer it as an add-on, or some other people might like to join independently?

Oh, and you can get a visa on arrival at Luang Prabang airport. Took me all of 3 minutes.
