Hike: Pollinators in the Flower Preserve
Saturday, June 23, 10-11: Pollinators in the Flower Preserve The purpose of the walk will be to observe and learn about the diversity of native pollinators in New Jersey. Topics discussed during the walk will include the biology of native bees, the importance of native pollinators, and threats to them. The walk is appropriate for ages 10 and up. The program will be led by a PhD candidate in Ecology and Evolution at Rutgers focusing on native pollinators, who has used South Mt. Reservation to gather some of her data. Meet at the Widflower & Forest Preserve located next to the dog park on Bear Lane. From South Orange Ave., take Crest Drive a half mile to the barrier and turn right to the large parking lot. What we're about

This group is for people interested in the activities in the South Mountain Reservation sponsored by the South Mountain Conservancy. The conservancy helps to preserve, protect, and enhance the 2099-acre South Mountain Reservation in Essex County, New Jersey. Regularly scheduled activities are hikes, forest regeneration activities (third Sunday of the month), trail work (first Sunday of the month), "trash tackling." In addition there are special volunteer days scheduled for community groups, religious organizations, universities, and corporations.
