In this class a complete description of the stroke is discussed accompanied by slow motion and playing drills. Topics include choice of grip, various spins such as flat, slice, sidespin, and topspin trajectories, and stroke production. Various styles and choices are discussed and individually tried in regard to footwork, trunk rotation, back swing, point of contact, and follow through with tips on placement and relevant strategies. At the end of the class stick around for some doubles or singles.
Will Goldstein has a long history as a player, and teacher of tennis. Beginning at the age of 9 he received private instruction from such notable players as Walter Westbrook, 1925 World Doubles Champion, and Stan Smith, 1972 World Singles Champion. As a youth he was privileged to play an exhibition match with Billie Jean King, 1966 World Singles Champion. In high school he was ranked in the top 12 in the LA county school district, and as an adult has been ranked as high as No 1 in the A's during the 1980's era of tournaments in Sonoma County. He taught for about 15 years in Sebastopol including 9 years with Sebastopol Community Center. After about ten years hiatus he recently has resumed teaching again.
