Dr Barry Devlin will give a talk on the need for information, rather than data, when embarking on what is often called 'data-driven transformation'.
For all our talk of data-driven digital transformation, the emphasis on data and digital obscures the reality that business actually need information rather than data, meaningful insights over information, and actions beyond insights. The path from data to action is littered with IT misconceptions and unrealistic business expectations. This talk takes the road less travelled and explores why information context is key to digital business. And a "modern meaning model" shows how personal knowledge and social influences must be factored into the design of both self-service and AI-based decision-making support systems.
The event is sponsored by Scott Logic, and beer and pizza will be provided.
